الملخص
Background: Virtual simulation has been becoming more prevalent in the field of nursing education in recent years due to innovations in technology and computers. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of virtual teaching strategy on student's performance regarding nasogastric intubation. Research design: Experimental research design was used. Setting: This study was carried out at Medical Surgical Nursing Labs and Virtual Lab Faculty of nursing- Benha University. Sample: A systematic random sample of 229 medical surgical nursing students in first year second semesters throughout the 2023–2024 academic year. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used, I: Structure Students' Questionnaire to assess knowledge about nasogastric intubation and II: observational checklist to assess practice related to nasogastric tube intubation. Results: The study revealed that total mean score increased from 6.91 ± 2.74 and 6.96 ± 2.65 pre training. While post program implementation (through three phases of the study) with total mean score (11.80 ± 3.70, 14.85 ± 3.19, 15.38 ± 3.24 and 15.60 ± 2.86, 18.51 ± 1.80, 19.19 ± 1.23), respectively. There were highly statistically significant differences regarding total practice of nasogastric intubation through three phases of the study for control and intervention groups, at p ≤ 0.01.Conclusion: virtual teaching strategy showed its effectiveness in improving nursing students’ knowledge and practice regarding nasogastric intubation. Recommendation: incorporating virtual teaching strategy an effective teaching strategy, with traditional teaching in in different nursing clinical courses to enhance nursing students’ performance in clinical settings.
