This study aimed to investigate the moderating role of perceived physical health in the relationship between psychological resilience and psychological adjustment among older adults. It also sought to examine the associations between resilience and adjustment, as well as between perceived physical health and both resilience and adjustment.
The study sample consisted of 150 older adults aged between 60 and 70 years, with a mean age of 68.1 years and a standard deviation of 6.64. The researcher utilized the Perceived Physical Health Scale, the Psychological Resilience Scale, the Psychological Adjustment Scale, and a demographic data sheet (all developed by the researcher).
The findings revealed a significant positive correlation (p < 0.01) between psychological resilience and psychological adjustment among older adults. Moreover, perceived physical health was positively associated with both psychological adjustment and resilience. The results further indicated statistically significant gender differences in perceived physical health (physical functioning, bodily pain, mobility, general health perception), psychological adjustment (adjustment to physical and health changes, social adjustment, emotional adjustment, life satisfaction and self-esteem, family adjustment), and psychological resilience (stress coping, decision-making ability, optimism, social support, perseverance), all favoring males.
These results suggest that older men demonstrate higher levels of perceived physical health and resilience compared to women, with strong statistically significant differences. Importantly, the findings confirmed the moderating role of perceived physical health in strengthening the relationship between resilience and psychological adjustment among older adults.
