Abstract
Graphene has unique properties including high specific surface area, good chemical stability and excellent electrical conductivity. Graphene has attracted numerous investigation into it unique physical, chemical, and mechanical properties opening up a new research area for materials science and condensed-matter physics, and aiming for a wide –ranging and diversified technological applications.Hybrid membrane incorporating both organic and inorganic materials, such as zeolite, graphene, graphite, and silica, have been used to improve the performances of polymeric membranes, high permselectivity, higher hydrophilicity, and enhanced fouling resistance. In this work graphene nanosheets (GNS) were prepared chemically at low temperature and the prepared GNS was characterized using different techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, transmission electron microscope, UV-visible. Graphene/Cellulose Acetate Reverse osmosis membranes prepared using phase inversion technique. Morphological and hydrophilicity properties were characterized for the nanocomposite RO membranes of different ratio of Graphene. The rejection and the water flux were measured for the prepared RO membranes. It wasfound that the rejection and water flux for the nanocomposite membrane containing 4.0 mg graphene are 96.0%, and 9.3 L.m-2.h-1 respectively.
