Abstract
Phytochemical analysis plays a vital role in
evaluating the potential medicinal value of
cinnamon bark extracts and identifying the
essential active components responsible for the
bioactivity of the plant. Therefore, in the current
study, we attempted to elucidate these groups using
standard phytochemical screening procedures. The
results showed that alkaloids, glycosides, tannins,
gums, resins, flavonoids, steroids, fixed oils, and
proteins were all detected.However, phlobatannins
were not noticeable. Anthraquinone glycosides and
terpenoid content were suspicious. The results of
the current study revealed that Ceylon cinnamon
extract is a rich source of phytochemicals,
indicating prospective antioxidant activity.This
mightbe attributed to the existence of potent
antioxidants like flavonoids and various phenolic
compounds, which serve as readily available
natural sources of antioxidants. Hence, they could
potentially be utilized as a dietary supplement
within the pharmaceutical sector.Moreover, the
findings of this research could offer valuable
insights to assist in the practical implementation of
this nutraceutical in various sectors such as food,
cosmetics, and medicinal fields.
