الملخص
Abstract: The increasing pressure on water resources, combined with the growing impacts of climate change, has created significant challenges for urban open spaces in Egypt. While the country faces water scarcity, extreme weather events such as prolonged droughts and intense rainfall have become more frequent, highlighting the need for resilient water management strategies. This research develops a methodology for enhancing the resilience of urban open spaces to water-related challenges through the integration of Green Infrastructure elements. The proposed approach aims to improve rainwater management while maximizing the utilization of rainfall as a valuable water resource. The study investigates a range of Green Infrastructure elements and develops a selection matrix to support the choice of the most suitable solution according to site-specific conditions. To evaluate the proposed methodology, a practical application was conducted in an urban open space in Alexandria. A simulation model representing existing conditions was compared with a second model incorporating selected Green Infrastructure elements. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of Green Infrastructure in reducing surface runoff, managing rainwater accumulation, and improving water-use efficiency. The findings highlight the potential of Green Infrastructure as a sustainable approach for strengthening urban resilience to water scarcity and climate-related challenges in Egyptian cities
